L&Js Exchanges Hands in Aberdeen

Bruce & Co. are delighted to announce the sale of L&Js; a popular Grocers and Post Office situated within the outskirts of Aberdeen City Centre, benefitting from being surrounded by a large residential population.

L&Js Grocers has been run by the vendors Mr & Mrs Jenkins, and has since, developed an excellent reputation within the local community. The business offers a wide selection of general groceries, newspapers, magazines, chilled produce, confectionary, cigarettes, beers, wines and spirits. The addition of a Post Office came into effect in 2014 and now currently generates around £1,500 pcm in commissions. Mr & Mrs Jenkins only decided to bring the business to the market due to their wish to retire.

The property is a corner, lock-up unit. The front is straight to street with a traditional frontage, and the entrance is from the front which in turn, leads into the main shop. The main shop has a service counter, a large tobacco display and alcohol. The shop is fully fitted with display shelving, chilled display units, along with a selection of frozen produce display. The property further benefits from a large basement storage area which is accessed from a floor hatch in the stock room. Additionally, there is a small staff room and toilet.

Even though trading successfully, the sale of L&Js provided new owners with the opportunity to overtake a business with strong foundations already in place, with the added opportunities to expand the business. Included within the sale was also an empty retail unit; which provides new owners with the scope to generate rental income.
Once on the market, the business generated good levels of interest with six viewings and four offers. The business was eventually sold to Mr Ul-Haq on a freehold business for £294,000.
Regarding the sale, Sales Manager Jayne Adamson commented, “We are delighted to have come to a successful end to the sale of L&Js. We wish Mr and Mrs Jenkins all the best with their retirement. We would also like to wish Mr Ul-Haq the best of luck with his new business venture.”
