Award Winning Café Sold in Edinburgh

Bruce & Co. are delighted to announce the sale of Blue Bear; a charmingly presented café and bistro located in Edinburgh.

The award winning business was under the ownership of the vendors, Mr and Mrs Gillespie, for over 3 years, before they reluctantly decided to place the business on the market due to personal reasons. The licensed café has won several awards since operation, including the ‘Best Café in Edinburgh’ in the Skinny Magazine Food and Drink Survey, and coming in at number 18 in the UK’s top 100 restaurants as voted for by Yelp (Daily Telegraph) reviewers in 2015.

The business is renowned for offering excellent home-made hearty food for breakfast and lunch in a warm and welcoming environment. Although trading extremely successfully, there is still excellent potential for the new owners to increase turnover, such as by introducing evening meals and increasing opening hours, as the business has historically only operated for breakfast and lunch time trade.

The Blue Bear currently accommodates 45 customers on the ground floor with an additional outside seating area, and incorporates a fully fitted kitchen.

Interest was expected to be high, and this was proved correct with an impressive number of 8 viewings. The cafe was later acquired by an experienced confidential buyer on a leasehold basis. The location and the reputation of the business was cited as key reasons in their decision to purchase the Blue Bear cafe.

Safa Sultan, Sales Negotiator at Bruce & Co. comments: “This was a lovely business purchase situated in the centre of Edinburgh with a great reputation. I have no doubt that the new owners will nourish and grow the business. It was a pleasure to work with everyone involved in the sale.”
